Two Great Women, One Great Night!
Circle the date and join the festivities for Two Great Women, One Great Night. Thursday evening June 5, 2008, Paula S. Steinberg will be honored by Beth El as she is presented with the Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Award during the program that will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and acclaimed novelist Anna Quindlen as the guest speaker.
Paula Steinberg's leadership, philanthropy, energy and commitment to Jewish values have been and continue to be devoted to benefiting people and institutions that serve people in need locally, nationally, in Israel and other countries throughout the world. This award honors individuals who, like our Rabbi Emeritus Stanley M. Kessler, have made unique contributions to Jewish learning, teaching, human rights, community service and the practice of Jewish values every day. The Award was last presented to Nobel Peace Prize winner Eli Wiesel in April 2006.
Anna Quindlen's writings have appeared in some of America's most influential and widely-read newspapers and magazines as well as on both fiction and non-fiction best seller lists. In 1992 she was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for commentary during her tenure as New York Times Op-Ed page columnist. Her commentary is currently featured bi-weekly on the prestigious Back Page of Newsweek Magazine.
Paula has participated in 21 Jewish Federation missions to Israel and on excursions to visit Jewish communities in France, Norway, Argentina, the Former Soviet Union, Lithuania, and Poland. At Beth El she is the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, a member of the Board of Trustees and of its Finance Committee. She co-chaired both the 2003 celebration of our Jubilee Year and the Eli Wiesel program in 2006. Paula is the Chair of the Board of Visitors of the Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Hartford, the founding chairperson of the Jewish Book Festival at the Mandell Jewish Community Center and has served as President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
