The Story of the Danish Jews and their Rescue during WWII with Charlotte Thalmay
Thursday, April 8, 2021 • 26 Nisan 5781
1:00 PM - 2:00 PMOn ZoomMen's Club is proud to invite you to an afternoon of important history.
For almost 400 years the royal family in Denmark supported and protected the small but influential Jewish Community. So it was no coincidence that King Christian X made a huge effort to protect the Jews when Denmark was occupied by the Nazis in April 1940. Brave fishermen helped more than 95% of the Danish Jewish population across the strait to safety in neutral Sweden. Many Jews escaped from fishing villages on small boats. Hear personal stories about the miraculous rescue of almost 7,000 Danish Jews in October 1943.

Please note:
Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) will be commemorated starting the evening of Wednesday, April 7th. On that night, candles are lit in homes across the globe to shine a light of memory, a light of education, and a light confirming that we will never forget. By participating in this program, you are helping to keep the memory of the Shoah alive, and highlighting the memory of what can happen when good people do not stand up to evil.
The Beth El Men’s Club will mail yellow candles to all Temple members residing in CT, and out of state members upon request. We urgently need help assembling about 800 yellow candle packages, and are asking individuals or families to volunteer to help us, by each assembling 48 packages for mailing in the safety of their own home. If you’re able to help, please contact Tom Falik (tfalik@comcast.net / 860-729-7245).
If you wish to make a donation to support this cause, please send a check payable to Beth El Men’s Club to the Temple; and note “Yellow Candles” in the memo. All profits will go directly to the Camp Ramah Scholarship Fund.
