Healing
What is a Community You Can Believe In if not one that you can also count on when encountering life’s bumps in the road? We are here to support our members in difficult times.
Due to HIPAA, we are generally unable to find information about your hospital stay. Please ask a family member or friend to contact our office so that our clergy may visit you.
We recite a Misheberakh, a healing prayer for those who are ill, every Monday, Thursday, and Shabbat morning, as well as any other time that the Torah is read. If you would like to add a name to our list, please contact Rabbi Howard Sowalsky. Names are traditionally read in Hebrew as “person who is ill, son/daughter of that person’s mother.” If you do not know all of that information, or if the person is not Jewish, we will still include the name on our list. We pray for a refuat hanefesh (a healing of the soul) and a refuat haguf (a healing of the body), so please share names of those in need of healing from mental and physical illnesses. We ask you to keep us posted when, God willing, the person has healed so we may remove their name.
If you are in need of support or know someone who could use a little help during an illness, or an illness of a parent, spouse, or child, please connect with the Beth El office at (860) 233-9696 and we’ll reach out to our Caring Committee.

Exploring the Siddur: A deep dive into the language, meaning, music, and origins of our prayers
Shabbat, Nov 22nd 4:00p to 6:30p
Back by popular demand, now expanded with a learner's service and Havdallah! Continuing from our successful summer series, we will meet once a month for a seudah shleesheet (third meal of Shabbat), and a chance to learn with our rabbis/educators about the prayers in our Siddur. New this winter, we are expanding this series to include a learner's Mincha service before, and an in-person havdallah service that will engage all the senses at the end! Adults and teens of all backgrounds are welcome to join; no prior knowledge of Hebrew or the Machzor is necessary. This program is part of the Adult B'nei Mitzvah Program. Annual Turkey Drive for JFS
Sunday, Nov 23rd 9:00a to 12:00p
The need for turkey donations is great this year, as there are so many in our community who risk going without a holiday meal. Thanks to your generosity last year, we were able to feed all of the JFS families! This year we know we need 300+ frozen turkeys to feed the Greater Hartford families who need our help. Please bring your frozen turkeys (preferably kosher), pop your trunks and one of our volunteers will be there to assist you. If you cannot bring a turkey, a cash or check donation (made payable to Jewish Family Services with "food pantry" in the memo line) is also very much appreciated. This event will take place rain or shine!
