Exploring the Machzor: A deep dive into the language, meaning, music, and origins of our prayers

5:30 PM - 7:00 PMBeth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117We invite you to join Rabbi Rosen and Rabbi Zerin for Seudah Shleesheet (the third meal of Shabbat -- a light dinner), learning, and zemirot (Shabbat songs). We will take a deep dive into some of the prayers in our Machzor, exploring topics such as their meaning, the way they function in the service, the different biblical and rabbinic texts that they quote or refer to, their new and traditional musical settings, ways that music enhances the meaning of the text, and the history of how the prayers came to be a fixture in our prayerbook.
Adults and teens of all backgrounds are welcome to join us, and no prior knowledge of Hebrew or the Machzor is necessary.
Light dinner will be served. RSVP (below) is required, with a suggested donation of $10 per person.
Please note: this class is in person only. We will maintain a Shabbat-friendly environment and look forward to seeing you in person.
