Understanding This Israeli Moment with Yossi Klein Halevi

10:00 AM - 11:45 AMBeth El Temple's Israel Engagement Committee and Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford invite you to a discussion with Yossi Klein Halevi. As a preeminent scholar of the Arab-Israeli conflict, an American-born Israeli, and an IDF soldier in Gaza during the first intifada, Halevi will share his unique perspective on the current conflict and how we got here, Israeli politics, and the future of the Holy Land.
Yossi Klein Halevi is a sought-after senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. He co-directs the Institute's Muslim Leadership Initiative (MLI), which teaches emerging young Muslim leaders in North America about Judaism, Jewish identity and Israel. Over 150 Muslim leaders have participated in the unique program. He is co-host, together with Donniel Hartman and Elana Stein Hain, of the Hartman Institute’s podcast, “For Heaven’s Sake.”
Halevi is the author of several books, including the recent Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor, a New York Times bestseller which has been translated in a dozen languages. Halevi’s 2013 book, Like Dreamers won the Jewish Book Council's Everett Book of the Year Award. He has written for leading op-ed pages in North America and is a former contributing editor to the New Republic. He is frequently quoted on Israeli, Middle Eastern and Jewish affairs in leading media around the world and is one of the best-known lecturers on Israeli issues in the North American Jewish community and on North American campuses.

Men's Club invites Beth El men to join together for a deli dinner, followed by a lively discussion about the impact of the war in Gaza on each of us. Hearing Men’s Voices (HMV) is a unique program that engages Jewish men in Jewish life, enabling deeper connections and better relationships among our members. Trained leaders facilitate HMV sessions encouraging men to talk and engage in rich and meaningful dialogues about common issues using materials developed by the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC), themselves, and other clubs and leaders.
